FARM: Members of the Cooperative Coffee Rusiga Sector (KCRS)
REGION : Rulindo
ALTITUDE : 1800 - 2000 MASL
VARIETAL : Bourbon
PROCESS : Washed
Around 85% of growers in the Cooperative Coffee Rusiga Sector (KCRS) farm at elevations above 2000 masl. These smallholder plots support highly diverse production, with coffee intercropped alongside an average of six other crops such as legumes, beans, and sweet potatoes. This diversity provides year-round income and food security for farming families.
The cooperative structure strengthens farmer support and is often used to improve struggling farms. Coffee is sourced through Kinini, where Jacquie has played a key role in helping women farmers organise. Although some male family members are involved, women hold ownership and leadership of the land. With Jacquie’s guidance, the farmers formally registered a cooperative and formed 12 village-based groups to make training and travel more accessible.
