WOMEN'S CROWN, RWANDA
“Making women’s coffee work count” is the principle behind Rugori (Women’s Crown), a fully washed coffee produced and processed entirely by women at Gasharu Coffee in Rwanda.
Named after the traditional crown given to women after their first birth, Rugori celebrates recognition and respect. With women making up over 70% of Gasharu’s workforce, the project ensures more value returns to those doing much of the work.
The result is greater financial empowerment, supporting household stability, education, and community wellbeing. The initiative continues a family legacy begun in 1983 by Celestin and Marie Gorette, linking coffee production with opportunity and community support.
