COFFEE MADE VISIBLE

We print all our labels and limited edition artworks on a Riso printer. While it resembles a photocopier, it works more like screenprinting, building images through layered spot colours and stencils to create bold, tactile prints with a lighter environmental footprint.

Initially introduced into our postcards and associated print works in 2023, Risograph printing became the bedrock of our 2026 rebrand, allowing us to create something unique and characterful with every coffee release. The process mirrors much of what we value in coffee itself: experimentation, texture, variation and the beauty of thoughtful production.

Low impact

Riso printing is an energy-efficient, low-impact process. It uses soy-based, non-toxic inks and plant-fibre stencils, with minimal electricity and no water-intensive stages. Unlike litho, it requires just one print to set up, avoiding the significant water and chemical use typical of conventional mid-sized printing methods.

Art with every bag

Across our labels, packaging and print work, we use a Risograph process that produces a distinctive, tactile finish. The inks sit on the surface of the paper, giving each piece a hand-printed quality, whether it’s a retail bag, a Freak & Unique artwork, or materials developed for and with our wholesale partners.

Traceable with each step

By printing and producing our materials within the building, we’ve been able to remain deeply connected to the process as we’ve grown. Rather than outsourcing these stages, they continue to sit within our day-to-day practice; allowing us to stay hands-on with every detail, from coffee and artwork through to paper stocks, inks and production methods.

The way we present our work evolves alongside us, shaped by the same care, experimentation and consideration that underpins the coffees themselves and allowing us to stay close to our own creative practices.

FREAK & UNIQUE

In the ever-evolving landscape of coffee culture, where innovation meets tradition, there remains space for coffees that refuse to sit quietly within the expected.

For the last 5 years, Freak & Unique has been our platform for those coffees: lots that push processing, flavour and perception into new territory. These are expressive, unconventional coffees that challenge assumptions around what coffee can be.

For each release, we pair the extraordinary with the extraordinary, commissioning artists to create limited edition works that sit alongside the coffee itself; honouring the creativity, experimentation and craft present throughout the entire journey from producer to cup.

Each commission is directly supported through the project, with a percentage of sales feeding back into an artist grant, helping realise a work of the artist’s own choosing. Through Freak & Unique, coffee becomes not only a product of agriculture and technique, but a catalyst for wider creative practice.
