Tether

Tether

Born of lockdown, Tether reflected on a moment when our sense of community was stretched, fractured, and fundamentally reconsidered. Who we tether ourselves to, who we rely on, and the quiet undercurrents of connection that shape our everyday lives all came into sharper focus.

Commissioned by Hundred House Coffee, Tether was an interactive, touring art installation that began at the London Coffee Festival before moving through Birmingham and Manchester Coffee Festivals, collaborating with different artists at each stage.

Participants were invited to create their own print, screening their identity onto a continuous scroll of paper. Each artwork linked to the next, tethered through a visible crossover. Using a limited series of shapes and colours, yet allowing for endless variation, the work became a collective language built through individual expression, reflecting both our differences and our shared ground.

Created in the aftermath of lockdown, the project sought to gently dispel the loneliness of isolation and bring people back together. It offered a moment to pause, to connect, and to leave a mark, tethered by a shared interest in coffee.

As a team, it was a joy to see so many familiar and new faces along the way, and to share both the work and our coffee. It was always a privilege to collaborate with artists on something so generous and open.
