Founded in 2008 by 30 women, the co-operative has grown to more than 600 members farming at elevations between 1,800 and 2,000 masl. The name Abateraninkunga translates to “mutual assistance”, reflecting the co-operative’s emphasis on shared growth and collective support. In 2014, Aba Sholi established its own washing station, helping coffee become a more reliable source of income within the region. Since then, the co-operative has supported improvements in food security, healthcare and education, alongside programmes focused on women’s empowerment and youth engagement. This fully washed lot is hand-sorted and float-separated before pulping and fermenting for 12–18 hours.
